Data security

An overview of security principles relevant to hospital software and digital health workflows.

Identity and access

Use individual accounts, role-based permissions, least-privilege access and timely access removal.

Credential protection

Keep API keys, database credentials and integration tokens on protected servers, never in public HTML or browser JavaScript.

Data transmission

Use HTTPS/TLS for public and application traffic and configure certificates appropriately.

Audit and monitoring

Maintain appropriate records of sign-ins, administrative actions, sensitive record access and integration events.

Backups and recovery

Define backup frequency, encryption, access restrictions, retention and restore testing.

Secure development

Apply dependency updates, code review, vulnerability management, environment separation and testing.

Privacy and consent

Limit collection and sharing to legitimate purposes. For ABDM workflows, follow current consent specifications.

Incident response

Maintain a process to investigate incidents, contain impact, preserve evidence and make required notifications.
